Any country faced with such massive influx of foreigners in such a short time will have problems. On top of that, Singaporeans are discriminated in the job market because of their military duties and higher CPF(retirement fund) expense for employers. There are so many foreigners that many Singaporeans have become minorities in their workplace. Some are complaining of being discriminated by foreign job interviewer who prefer to hire their own kind. It has become so bad that legislation is being studied to get employers to give Singaporeans a fair chance. This is happening in the banking sector where the jobs are high-paying which Singaporeans want to do and no reason why they can't do. It is small wonder Singaporeans have grown intolerant. What are the lessons that can be learnt from Singapore's mistake of importing too many foreigners in too short a time? It has to be emphasized that being open to foreigners is usually a good thing. The lessons to be learnt should be more related to bad execution rather than questioning the openness and closing the door shut. Also, the government has realized their mistake. So, please refrain from bashing the government.
