Avoid using baking soda. Many products are available in the market that are natural, herbal, not harmful and not so much costly. If you want to use baking soda use it twice in a month that is enough. You can use lemon juice in your toothpaste instead of baking soda in regular brushing.

dip your toothbrush with the paste on it into some baking soda (or just use baking soda on it's own) it will taste horrible, but brushing with that will make them whiter.

Brush with baking soda. Don't swallow it. Personally, I use Rembrandt intense stain toothpaste and it's much better.
