What part of Tuscany do you recommend?

We are going to be taking the train from Rome to Florence. From Florence we would like to spend some time in the countryside. Possibly stay at a B&B or Farmhouse where we can go wine ...show more

Answer:
Florence is great! There is nothing in Pisa..the town is really small and so is the leaning tower :( disappointment. I also suggest going to Lucca and Siena. Cinque Terre is beautiful!!!! Although it's not in Tuscany (it's in Liguria) I recommend you going there at least one time in your life. It's by the sea and it took my breath away everytime I went.Don't go during high tourist seasons though. It's really crowded.

You know all the main places probably (Florence, Pisa, Siena) and you should definitely hit those three up if you want to see Tuscany, but here's a few lesser known areas Bolgheri - Well known for their vineyards San Gimignano- City of medieval towers, worth the trip Volterra - If you're a Twilight fan, they're filming there...also many cool medieval sites Vinci- Not accessible by train, but it is Leonardo's hometown Then you also have Lucca, Livorno, and a bunch of other places...choose accodring to wat you want to do...

Florence is a must, it's the largest city in Tuscany and it's full of monuments and museums (go to the Uffizi, it's the best museum in Italy). Otherwise, three days are really little time to visit Tuscany... I'd suggest going to a smaller city with a lot of landmarks such as Pisa or Siena. If you want a tiny village with a nice atmosphere, San Gimignano is also fine.

If you have just 2-3 days I think it's difficult. Florence itself would deserve at least 2 days for a fast visit. An idea might be one day trip to Siena. It is a wondeful city and it is in the middle of the Tuscan country, From Florence you can get it simply by train (it takes one hour). Even little, it is a city so it is not like staying in a farm... but I think it would be a nice experience. To taste wine, you can find wine shops (called osteria or vineria) everywhere in Florence and even more in Siena.

Go to LIVORNO. You eat well -you do not spend much ( Livorno itself is not a turistic stay) and you are very near to Lucca ( the most interesting city in Toscana ) Pisa and Viareggio for bathing.
