We stayed in Florence April 21st and April 22nd of this year. We were at the Hotel Delle Nazioni. It was a great location, very close to the trains and buses, a walk to the Arno and most of the major attractions. But the shower was the smallest I have ever seen in my life and the bed was like a rock. The staff was great, every one spoke very good English, the breakfast was wonderful every morning, but the shower and the bed were just unbearable. So if this info is of any help do not stay at the Hotel Delle Nazioni

I think the best way to see Florence is by staying in an apartment. Historically I have found Florence hotels to be expensive, over priced and rather low on quality. On my last trip I stayed in these apartments: http://www.vividitaly.co.uk/property/Italy/Tuscany/Palazzo-Apartments They are quite small but the location is just perfect, you can walk to all the main attractons and the apartments are just delightful.

The Contemporary Interiors Have A Fresh Italian Feel And The Hotel Combines The Best Personalized Service With The Most Stylish Decor, State-of-art Technology And Fine Cuisine, As Well As A Panoramic Gym. This hotel is The Perfect Choice For Visitors To This Fascinating City. 2. Villa La Massa: Villa La Massa is a fascinating 16th century Medicean dwelling on the outskirts of Firenze (6 km from city center). Recently restored according to the Tuscan and Florentine style traditions, adding new luster to the splendid old mansion. The complex situated on the banks of the Arno river consists of three villas: the Noble Villa, the Old Mill and the Villino. Hotel offers its guests 37 rooms (10 suites) all different one from another, filled with antique furniture. Since the building was turned into a luxury hotel in 1948, many famous guests have enjoyed a stay at Villa la Massa: Clark Gable, Winston Churchill, Barbara Hutton, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, just to name a few. More recently, David Bowie and Iman took over the Villa for their wedding. Managed by Villa d'Este Hotels. 3. Villa Olmi Resort: In Bagno a Ripoli, a very short distance from the heart of Florence, an age-old country estate has refound the splendor of a villa and the simple elegance of rural environments. In the greenery of a centuries old park, Villa Olmi Resort is an exclusive example of good living: rare comforts, innovative services, gourmet restaurant, wine bar... 4. Castello del Nero Hotel and Spa: Castello del Nero is a 12th century castle, restructured and opened as a 5 star deluxe hotel in June 2006. The property comprises an estate of 400 hectares of private game reserve with various kilometres of internal roads and trails ideal for horse riding, biking and trekking.
