Why are our teeth temperature sensitive?

Sensitive teeth when drinking water of room temperature?

    Many things can cause the teeth to react to cold. Have you had a cold recently? Is it one particular tooth? Inflamed sinuses can cause sensitivity. Have you been eating lots of oranges,kiwis, tea with lemon, or anything with citric acid? This can cause sensitivity. Have you been clenching or grinding your teeth at night or during the day? This can also cause sensitivity. I would recommend visiting your dentist for a proper diagnosis. It may be something with a simple explanation or it could be something that requires treatment. The only way your body can tell you something is wrong is by pain and when in reoccurs it's a signal to pay attention and get to the source. I hope it's something easy to fix. Sandra RDH

Hello, here are three basic issues that can cause the pain you describe...(1)..you have one or more cavities. (2) You have for some reason had the enamel on one or more teeth become extra thin . (3) It's possible you have an abscess at the bottom of one or more teeth and the cold water triggers a reaction of pain. In any event you need a full oral examination which includes X-rays. Seems like your nerve is exposed,, Go to the dentist and see. I would personally recommend not going though as they have always seemed to make it worse for me! Try sensodyne or Colgate for sensitive teeth... they are amazing!

Going to the dentist would be good about now. You could have a cavity, have sensitive teeth or you may need a root canal. Go to the dentist. A filling seems expensive at 200-300 a pop, but if its a root canal, they can run 1800 or more. I paid 2100 for one cause I needed build up.
