The good quality boats are a very very good idea. Dont buy a cheap one unless you want to swim. I have seen inflatables, espeically ones wiht rigid hulls on the ocean in very rough water, bobbing like a cork in a bathtub, unsinkable. These boats are not easily punctured, they are made of the same stuff that white water rafts are made of and they constantly bounce off huge jagged rocks in rough rivers. the safety factor in good quality inflatables is phenominal, they all have multiple chambers, you can puncture one and still float quite well, If you totally swamp one (highly unlikely) they will still float.
