Lot's of questions. First of all determine where your husband will be on his R & R. if all of Germany are your options, I would consider an area between Dresden, Weimar and beyond and another between Würzburg and Kempten. The former relates more to Goethe and Schiller and Martin Luther. The latter offers more quaint communities. In addition there are the castles along the river Rhine. Germany has a lot to offer. Major museums are as in most countries in the larger cities such as Berlin and Munich, but architectural and scenic delights are found throughout the country.

Have you thought about taking a river cruise? You can cruise down a river making stops at the local towns and cities as you pass them by at your leisure. http://www.traveltoe.com/cruise/index.php?cPath=21_29&osCsid=98487d3e517f7a96d70522261a86d0e1 Germany is full of history, perhaps if your traveling in the spring or summer renting a convertible and cruising down the Romantic Strasse, stopping whenever and where ever you would like. Perhaps a nice MB SL or Porsche Boxster/911. http://germany.europcar.de/fleetguide/cabrios.html Had I 2 weeks R&R, a nice sport car rental, starting off with perhaps the Black Forest, moving over to the Castle of Bavaria, at Fussen, http://www.neuschwanstein.de/englisch/palace/index.htm up to Rothenberg, Stopping at Pommerfelding cafe http://www.kellerhaus-pommersfelden.de/ across to Bamberg, http://www.bamberg.info/en/ http://www.mahrs-braeu.de/index.php?id=70&L=1 down to Nuremberg, over to Munich, up to Czech, http://www.chodovar.cz/id140cz-nazor-lekare.htm perhaps Berlin, http://www.sanssouci-sightseeing.de/start/start.htm Dresden, http://www.dresden.de/dtg/en/sights/the_old_city/frauenkirche_church.php http://www.dresden.de/dtg/en/sights/the_old_city/historic_green_vault.php then back to the starting point. I would stop whereever I wanted for whatever I wanted, it would not be where I am going that would be important but that I was going somewhere, and let go to whatever adventures popped up. It is not the destination but the journey that matters. Enjoy.

I agree Munich is a great town to visit. Many things to see. Nazi tour, Marinplatz, be sure to go up in the tower. BMW, Olympic (sic) englisher garten, Do a google search on Munich and you will find many others to see and do.
