    If you want to stay in an old castle, I'd recommend you go to Scotland. They're renting some rooms there, and the castles on the British Isles are much better preserved than the German ones, which are mostly ruins. Except for Neuschwanstein, of course, but that's rather an imperial castle than what medieval life was really like. If you want to get that experience, it's Scotland that I'd strongly recommend. I'm German, btw.

I have seen a lot of the castles in Germany, and have taken tours in them. What a wonderful experience. One time when I flew over to Germany, my husband, then my fiance surprised me with a weekend I will never forget. He had made arrangements for us to stay at a castle for a weekend. We were on the top floor. They cooked for us, and was the most beautiful and thoughtful surprise anyone has ever done for me. It was like a fairy tale. So I would say again, the castles in Germany are enchanting.

There ate many castles left. They are surprisingly cheap to buy as nobody wants to live there as they are cold damp and drafty. Germany would have much warmer weather however.

The one in germany is called neuschwanstein and is probably the most famous one in the world. I think it's the best and you can't live in it because it's a historical monument and the country makes too much money off of it to have people live in it.

there are castles in all of those countries in germany the government will subsidise the upkeep of a castle. also i know of one above the town of baccarat in the rhine valley that is backpacker accommodation
