Try Munich (best city to be) for study and live in Moosburg (fairly cheap living and lots of space for pets). You have to commute a lot but despite the distance it does not take much longer (excellent train connection) than within Munich from one side to the other. Living in Munich costs a fortune and you will hardly get a place to live at short notice and never a cheap one. Very good job opportunities ( SÜDCHEMIE) in Moosburg

Difficult question... Generally you will find good jobs in the east of Germany: Leipzig, Magedeburg, etc. (eg at a Universitätsklinikum) However it might be difficult for you to undertstand the dialect at first so that you might want to reconsider and study in Paderborn, Göttingen, Bayreuth. But it also depends how much you want to spend on living costs and what kind of person you are. Perhaps you party a lot or do certain sports (mountain climbing, etc.) or what so ever then it will also be easier to exclude certain cities. If you have a dog then you might not want to live in the center of Munich or Berlin or Hamburg but in the outer areas -however finding an apartment to your liking and requirements will be difficult. Gather some information about the cities yourself and then go there and get a feeling where you belong. You could also learn the language in one city, study in another and find a job in another, too. As long as you are young you should take advantage of that :-)
