Can you scrub clay off a mug?

What coating should I apply to my air dry clay mug to make it waterproof and useable?

• Answer:

  air dry clay is not suitable or intended for food an beverages. If you want to make mugs and plates take a class in ceramics or pottery. They will include access to kiln and glazes in the class. As air dry clay aren't tested or regarded food safe I would not use them for food. I am not quite sure what various brands are made out of, I think a least some are based on starch, but probably have some additives which may make it inadvisable to eat on a regular basis.
