Can i receive short term disability from work for LASIK surgery?

  • I need to get LASIK surgery for a new job that requires me to have perfect vision. Will the company I work for now be required to pay me short term disability (as they offer it) or ...show more

  • Answer:

Lasik surgery will not keep you out of work long enough. Plus you are not disabled. You can drive and work without any limitations. short term is for people who have major surgery and have to be out of work for a couple of weeks or more. Usually, a company will have a waiting period before you can receive the checks, for instance 7 days. So if you are going to be out, you will have to use either personal days or vacation/sick days for the absence. so to answer you question, no, you can't receive short term disability pay for that.

You will not need 3-4 weeks of after lasik, and more than likely you will not qualify for short term disability. You need at the most a Friday and Monday off for this surgery. Hey numbnuts, the more near sighted you are has no impact on the time you are out for recovery after Lasik surgery, so don't plan on getting paid to stay at home and watch Oprah.

Everyone I've known to have LASIK, were back in business the very next day. And, it doesn't result in perfect vision, either - they need glasses for close up stuff.
