  • Answer:

The best time of year to go to Tokyo is either Spring or Autumn. Spring is one of the best times of year to be in Japan with the warm temperatures but not hot and not too much rain. March-April brings the famous cherry blossoms and lots of fun and festivals. Autumn which starts in September is also an excellent time to be in Japan with cooler temperatures and the beautiful fall colours which can be seen in the mountains. The highlights of Tokyo include, The Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine; Asakusa district famous for Sensoji temple and Nakamise shopping street with cheap, antique kimonos, geisha bags and beautiful paper products, Sensoji temple, and the Kappabashi kitchen street for those plastic replicas of food seen in restaurant windows. Ueno for its park and museums, Akehabara for electronics, Shinjuku for its shopping with its huge Takashimaya department store and food hall, Tokyu Hands eight level craft store and Uniqlo store for really cheap, high quality, basic clothing, Harajuku for cheap shopping and Japanese street fashion, and Shiodome for entertainment. Other places of interest include Shibuya for its famous intersection where the style tribes gather and Shibuya 109 the 10 level fashion emporium. Rappongi traditionally known for its nightclubs and bars, but now for its numerous upscale boutiques, smart cafes and Rappongi Hills with the 52 storey Mori building and Tokyo City View a walkway that wraps around the building offering 360 degree views stretching as far as Mt Fuji. Ginza for Matsuya department store and food hall.

Go in the Spring that way it won't be to hot or to cold.. The weather is nice and you can take in the MANY cherry blossom festivals! There is a really good one in Kichijoji. Also, if money is a problem then you should think about staying at Hostels. Hotels in Japan get very expensive and I would go for hostles. Yayoji park (not sure the spelling). This is cool on Sundays because the streets are lined with people playing music and having a REALLY good time. Kamakura (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2166.html) they have a massive outdoors buddah and lots of temples too. Shibuya - This is a major station and big part of the city. There is TONS of stuff to do there and you can take in the 5 million people that pass through the station everyday. And great shopping! Last Train - This is the last train running out of your distination. If you REALLY want to experience Tokyo, you need to get on one of these trains (if your not colsterphobic). It will give you a sense of Japanese culture for sure! There is SO many little communites! check out the Sunshine Tower http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshine_60 It has a great observation deck plus, if you get up there for the sunset... it is OUTSTANDING! A week to see tokyo isn't enough time.... it all depends what you're into Check out the GEEK district at http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3003.html this is a must too. Lots of computer Geeks and just, technology geeks running around. Also they have Harajuku http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harajuku this is there, "Goth" kids hang out... but they are far from Goth... more like... Hello Kitty meets Goth. Another REALLY cool area to explore, its close to Yayogi park. Hope this helps (some)

You should look up any events they have there or festivals. Or the most popular places tourists visit, it's a big city, i assume there would be a lot to do there.

Your range of choice (between end of January and the first week of February) is so narrow that you don't have to choose when. In fact, it's not such a good time to visit Tokyo. Temperature is still low. There are not many good events at that time. If you can pay 17,000 yen per night, there are many hotels you can stay.

17,000 yen is closer to 212$US,,,I suggest you go to a book store & buy a book on Tokyo. Fordor's have a very nice book just on Tokyo. It even comes with a map.
