Can I paint masonite?

Im want to paint on masonite with oil paint, what do i need to prep the surface?

  • Answer:

All you need is one or two layers of gesso. Get a large brush like you would use to paint a house and put down a layer, let it dry and then put down another layer. You can put more or less gesso based on what you need. That's really all you should need!

I agree with the other answers that you have received here but let me differ in one aspect. You will need to gesso both sides of the masonite because to not do so would allow the panet to warp a bit.

Gesso will do it. :)
