Need to buy a cheap winter coat in beijing, china... where is the best place to go?

  Because it is cold, you are not likely to get very good prices at the tourist markets. The sellers know a captive audience when they see one! I'd walk through Wang Fu Jing and go past the Foreign Languages Bookstore. From there, check the side streets in that area. Tourists don't always go that deep so the sellers might be more willing to bargain. The Silk Street Market, the Pearl Market and Ya Show will all have very high prices to start with. If you want to shop where the locals shop, then you'll need to hop on the subway and head down to Xidan. Another suggestion would be Jin Wu Xing (Five Gold Stars) Market in Haidian District. You could also simply check out Walmart. No bargaining, just a simple coat for a somewhat reasonable price.
