Where to stay in Loire Valley, France?

Post codes for Loire valley France?

  • I'm writing a story where my person lives in France I need to know a valid postcode for the Loire valley

  • Answer:

Yes, as said in another answer French post codes refer to a whole town, sometimes to several vlaages if they are small and close together. France is divided into "departements" which are similar to UK counties. They are numbered more or less in alphabetical order. These departements are grouped in larger administative areas each of which has between 2 depts (Alsace) and 8 depts. (Ile de France and Rhone-Alpes) The area covering the Loire Valley is "Pays de la Loire" which has 5 depts, which are (with their alphabetical numbers which are also the first 2 figures of all the towns/cities/villages in that dept): 44 - Loire-Atlantique; 49 - Maine-et-Loire; 53 - Mayenne; 72 - Sartre and 85 - Vendee. If I were you I would ignore the first and last of these and use a postcode beginning with 49 or 53 or 72.

Other answers

French postcodes don't work the same as in the UK. Each town has a code. Château-Gontier is 53200. Laval is 53000. Both are in the Loire Valley. So anything starting 53 would probably be OK.
