    its fais, because faire is the actual verb "to do". fais is the conjugation for "je" so here it is je fais la vaisselle je fais la lessive or je lave les vêtements j'aide dans le jardin =]

"je fais la vaisselle." it is fais because this is the present tense form of faire in the je form. I help in the garden. "j'aide dans le jardin."

It's "Je fais la vaisselle" because "Faire" is like the verb "To Do" that is NOT conjugated. Since you have "Je" you have to conjugate it and then it becomes "fais". If you said "I'm going (to do) the dishes" You'd keep it like this "Je vais FAIRE la vaisselle" & I helped in the garden is "J'ai aidé(e) dans le jardin".
