Answer:
Interesting last sentence, where did you find that? Anyway. Yes, France has traditional music, but as France is not a monolithic country every region has its own traditional music. There's a huge difference between the Breton gwerzioù and the Provencal Farandole. So you don't have one single traditional music, you have 20 or thirty. As we also have a very strong centralised state the regional identity was deliberately suppressed during the last 120 years so it is only in the last 20 years that it started to resurfaced and to be heard. We are more known for French classical music and operas than for regional dances and music. France 'logo' is easy to find, is it the Gallic rooster. And by the way, Portugal's is not a chicken but a rooster too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallic_rooster As for traditional costumes, it is the same as with the music, every region has its own. But if you want the caricatural French costume it is stripe shirt, beret, and sometimes a scarf.

I have read your other post at News and Events - Current Events - What is your problem with France? Have you visited France or at least done accurate research?

I question your sources. Obviously your research is flawed. You are very very uninformed. There are cities in France going back thousands of years. What do you think those people did for fun all that time? The contribution of France to music and culture is well documented and readily available. Cabal put it best.

What a fantastic answer from young Sophie. Congratulations! I just would like to add that you can actually listen to the songs of the Auvergne on this website, and there is a choice of more on the right hand side by other interpreters. Bailero is the most famous. Here is what is considered the best version, but you should also listen to the Kate Royal version which, although a bit slow, is accompanied by fabulous winter pictures of the Auvergne. This is just a glimpse, but France is such a beautiful country worth getting to know and the French are not ogres who eat children , their neighbours or their visitors for breakfast! :-)
