Best city in France to study French?

I am going to study in France next semester. I have the same set of goals which I took into consideration while picking the best option for me. I ended up choosing to live with a host family in Aix-en-Provence. It is a relatively small town but has a few universities and is very close to Marseille. In the smaller cities there a fewer english speakers so you will not be tempted. Also living with a local family will help you with the language and understanding their culture, not to mention the magnificent meals that they can prepare.

You could go anywhere in France and be immersed in French language and culture. Even in Paris most people speak French. The thing about France is that the cuisine, culture and dialect is slightly different in the different areas of France. My suggestion would be to go to a small town/small city just outside of a large city. Small rural towns have what the French call "deep France." It's French culture that hasn't been changed so much by multiculturalism. But, by being close to a large city you can experience the museums, fashion etc. that is clustered in the large cities.
