    General attitude French people have towards Americans is... yawn. Or some criticism. Nothing like what you hear about the French in the US. You will probably will need to learn to discuss politics French way, and read a few things about out culture before you arrive. For exemple we are not attacking you, we just love a good healthy vivid discussion. And we love politics. And we love to criticise, each other included. Especially each other. That's cultural. If you come to Paris, unless you try to look French they will take you for a tourist and ignore you with the same carelessness that they ignore the 24 other million tourists. Like said above, the passport you use to get your visa is your legal identity in France. If they need to register the details at a hotel better give the right one. We are on orange alert right now, red alert is never far and false identities are very closely checked. As your second passport will not be registered in the database you might cause a blip, or you might not. Why run the risk?

To stay in France, or anywhere in the Schengen Zone, for more than 90 days will require either a Study Visa or a Long Stay Visa. So the passport you use to enter France, and which you will need to use as ID, will be the one with the visa.

You can use either of them it doesn't matter as you won't need to get it out that much...
