Yes "la rue de la soif" and various "creperies" in between the bars are always a favourite for a lot of students. And as an ex-student of Rennes: I agree, it was a lot of fun. But if it is for a school project, maybe it won't be enough...maybe...although you never know!! -One of the first thing I heard about when I moved to Rennes (apart for the bars...) was the "parlement", built in the 17th century and severely damaged by fire in 1994 during a demonstration. It was a big deal when I was overthere, probably because I was there not too long after. It became a priority to restaure the place. -If you can find some pictures from downtown, you'll notice the timber frame houses. It's pretty neat and worth to check out. -If you want good quality and cheap food, the outdoor market is great. It's huge, and I remember going most of the Saturdays morning with a bunch of friends to buy the meal of the day/ week. It's a lot of fun, because it's really alive and dynamic, there is no way you can buy something without being at the receiving end of a few jokes, friendly comments. I think it's one of the biggest outdoor market in France. -And then, the city is pretty famous for the transmusicales (a music festival) and also a couple film festival. -I notice that Rennes always appear to be very alive, politically (students were often the first one to demonstrate about the latest political change) and also to volunteer for new stuff to try, like the free bikes all over the city: you grab them, use them for a couple hours, put it back where ever you are, there are pretty weird-loonking too probalby so you won't steal them away...I don't know if they changed them, but I remember they had an odd balance too, really easy to fall on your butt if you're biking a bit crazy... I probably forgot a bunch of stuff, it's just my opinion anyway...I had a good time when I was overthere, and people were really friendly, it's a great place to be. Good luck for your project,

The bars on the 'rue de la soif". Lots of young people and a fun time.

Rennes is mostly well known for its bars & pubs. Seriously, if you find a street without one, then, it means that you're out of Rennes. Lots of students. It's good fun!
