What do you think of Nicholas Sarkozy of France saying that France is not a place for burqas?
-
He said this took away the identity of women and does not want this attire to become prevalent in France.

Answer:
I think its a good decision. All the ministers agreed on it, but did not make it a rule or something. There will be an enquiry. Nevertheless, many of those women are forced to wear it and I don't think that's fair. I met them personally myself. This is not against Islam or something. Its just that there should not be any bounds on anyone

What do you think of States where women are banned from wearing shorts or a knee length skirt, or a swimming costume on the beach, have to have their arms and heads covered, whether they want to or not, irrespective of nationality or religion? Let's face it, it is written nowhere in the Koran that women had to live completely hidden under a tent with only a grill to see through. Not so long ago the Roman catholic church demanded women to cover their heads and all churches still ask women and men to be decently dressed when they enter a church because it is a place of worship, but Christianity does not impose a mode of dress which is not only impractical but also uncomfortable in ordinary life. As for nuns only some of those who live in enclosed orders still wear the complete garb, whilst those who live in society wear a simple uniform (or not) with or without a scarf or short veil, and they were NEVER forced to hide their face, even in the old days. Women who wear saris show their face and not only that but also a good slice of midrift and bare arms too. In Morocco and Tunisia Muslim women are stunningly well dressed in bright colours with scarves matching their long skirts, and they show their face. It does not prevent them from being good Muslims. The Burqa is hiding individuality and personality and most of the women who wear it actually resent its excessivity but have no choice because it is imposed not by their religion but by their men: they wear it out of submission. Would you like your mother, your sister or your wife to be forced to wear such a garment as a burka wherever she goes?Look at what is happening in Iran and you can see what such impositions lead to .

President Sarkozy is absolutely correct. France is a secular, liberal, western nation and its very essence is to rebuke primitive tribalism, medieval social attitudes, and religious fanaticism. The burqa is the symbol of everything that is wrong with Islam and people who believe in modernity, human progress and gender equality should reject any attempt to infiltrate this vile chauvinist throwback into Western society.

"These women are not forced to wear these burqas in a country liek France, they choose to wear it." You're so naive. What do you think ? There must be thousands of muslims in France who force their women to wear the burqa. Thy don't care whether they are in France or not, they just want their wife no to be seen. I think Sarkozy is right, wtf, if you think that wearing the burqa is a matter of religion I say that France is a laïcal country and so don't wear religious signs. If you say that this is not about religion but this is a private choice, I answer that they don't have to force their wife to wear this (I know that some wear it willingly, but I really can't understand it. Humans are not animals, people will not rape you just because they've seen your face, this is just a thing to oppress women. ) And my last argument is that I don't want to see women looking like phantoms in my country that's all. I know I will be called racist, intolerant, etc, I don't care. This is what I think.

I think its absolute racial, prejudice, and social bigotry. These women are not forced to wear these burqas in a country liek France, they choose to wear it. Just because it is out of societal norms does not mean it should be illegal. It is targeting a very specific group of Muslim women who feel that they are closer to God because they dress like that. If he wants to be fair he should tell all Nuns that they are not allowed to be covered from head to toe either. What a damn bigot...I feel like fake *** hood rats who wear their shorts down to their knees and tuck their shirts into their boxers would be more socially unacceptable then a God-fearing woman in burqa.

I am an American and I am quite disappointed in Sarkozy's comments about the burqas. If I were Muslim, I would be outraged. Here is an issue sentimental to the values of Muslim countries, the Arab world, AND the Western World, for different reasons, however. In the west: This is an issue of Freedom of Expression. In the Arab World: This is a duty the culture and people live by. But in France? What on earth is going on with Sarkozy? This guy is turning everybody off with this proposal.
