    Kannada is originated from ancient Tamil and thus many words in kannada are some form of Tamil or ancient Tamil. Eg- avan-avanu, aval-avalu , onru-ondhu , irandu- eradu , moonru- mooru , naangu - naalugu , ainthu - aindhu , aaru - aaru , ezhu - elu , ettu - endu , onbathu - ombatthu , patthu- hatthu. Remember that there are some sound change rules between these two languages, observed by linguists in many words (but not all words). That is -. TAMIL ->KANNADA . . . Pa -> ha , va -> ba , nru -> ndu , zha -> la etc. See Tamil paal -> haalu in kannada, patthu -> hatthu, paal-> haalu, pal-> hallu etc .
