The only reason for you to do a particular certification is to choose the domain you want to work on. If you are an OCJP, you are more likely to get mapped to Java training during ILP, provided they have a Java training batch when you join. But, you can actually get the domain of your choice if you are ranked in the top 20 in PAT exam that happens at the start of ILP. Having any certification can better your chances of your getting the domain of your choice.

I don't think that a certification is needed before joining TCS. As a fresher you are simply expected to have your basics right. Concentrate on things like Algorithms, Data Structures and C Programming. What you need is the aptitude and communication skills. You will be expected to learn some new technology within a matter of weeks. That would depend on the company needs and your location. So there is no point in doing a Java Certification if you are mapped to a Dot Net Project. It actually happened with a friend of mine. He was Oracle certified Java Developer but then was allocated to a Dot Net project. It happens a lot in companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, etc. The skills of freshers are not given any priority while allocating the projects. So its better to work for at least a year and then see what you've been working on for the last 1 year, get certifications in that technology. P.S.: Certifications do matter, but only when you've experience. For freshers its all the same.

Wait till you get a project. Doesn't matter whatever certification you do. You will be put into whatever is written for you. Wait till you get mapped to some technology where you will be reimbursed for taking up your certification and go according to your mapped technology. Anything you spend before that is utter waste (Atleast till the period you work with TCS :P)

A2A.First thing, its not mandatory. Second, its not that some certifications are more good compared to something else. You can opt for any certification in the field you would like to work on. For e.g SCJP certification for Java developer, Microsoft SQL certification or Oracle Database SQL Certification for being a SQL developer etc etc.Every certification will definitely help you in lifting your career at some point. As your stream is ECE, so choose wisely according to your comfort.

TCS does not ask for any certification before ILP. I would strongly recommend you not to go for any certification now. Go for ILP and give your best. Once you are through with the ILP and assigned to any project then you should go for certification as you will be reimbursed for the same. Additionaly, TCS also provides internal training before you go for such certifications.Cheers!

Congratulations for getting placed in TCS. Certifications are not compulsory to join TCS but will give you a start in the technology you did certifications. If you will do any certifications then you are making 90% sure you will get trained again in same technology but at the same time you are shutting the other opportunities which may come to you during ILP.e.g. You may get a chance to work on SAP which is in very high demand.Once you join TCS and after ILP you will get allocated into a project where you will get chance to do certifications which will be paid from project fund. You don't need to pay a single rupees from your pocket :PWhen you will be released from the ILP no one will ensure you will get a project on same technology during your ILP So chill just join TCS and explore your opportunities after joining TCS.TCS gives you lot of opportunity to excel you carrier.Wish you all the best... Good Luck!! and don't forget to enjoy your ILP days which will be priceless in your life :D
