Where to find travel buddies?

How did you find your travel buddies?

  • Actually, I have a problem with finding people who are really energetic and want to explore places or cities! I hang out with people but they tend to exhaust easily. Like if it's quite sunny, they don't want to see any places anymore! Even if they visit any places, there won't be any enthusiasm to enjoy the places, try famous food there, starting early for the places, etc.   None of my friends come on time to visit any places (most of the time). They start late, end up seeing only half and taking some random photos! :/   I see a few groups who are disciplined and enjoy everything out there if they go anywhere. Why am I not finding any such people?

  • Answer:

I married one of them, the other two we created :P

My suggestion: Travel alone. I always enjoy traveling alone, you make plans for yourself and you can change it whenever u want, you can jump into a river and do not need to worry if someone's waiting. You find strangers along the way, you chat, you talk, you even can tag along with them for several days. But you can always put out whenever you want.

I found some on the campsite, some on the beach and another from home. Sometimes I wished I had not. Others time I was glad to have them or one.

I don't need to look very far for a travel buddy! My hubby is the best travel buddy I could ever ask for! We have travelled the length and breadth of the country and visited a few exotic destinations abroad.. Its been as much fun as can be!

You have not mentioned your location and since I am based in Delhi NCR so my answer based on my experience in NCR. I have been participating in various groups like: 1. https://www.facebook.com/delhiphotographyclub *Free of Cost 2. https://www.facebook.com/DelhiBikersAdventureTourGroup *Nominal amount 3. https://www.facebook.com/travelindia42 *Economy Packages In all the above mentioned groups, everyone was unknown to each other. So you get chance to make friends too. But, How did I found them? On Facebook. By liking pages and joining groups. Randomly. Go and check the kind of groups you are interested and join them. Simple. Other than that, few more ways to find a travel buddy are: 1. https://www.facebook.com/aTravelBuddy 2. http://www.travbuddy.com/ 3. http://www.meetup.com/ 4. https://www.couchsurfing.com/dashboard I have not personally tried any of the above, but worth a shot ;) P.S : If in and around Delhi you need a company, let me know. We might plan out something. Happy Travelling :)

Just a hint of practicality here - the number of buddies you WANT to choose is really important. Travelling alone makes sense if you do not have a timetable to follow. If you do, then a pair of people makes a lot of sense OR do massive amounts of homework for fallbacks in case things go awry. I back-packed across Switzerland alone this summer and had done massive homework - so no major snafus. But I lost a lot of time in small things - waiting in a line to find out where the lockers are in a small station. Ahead of me were a couple who had done no homework and could not agree on anything and kept fighting - yaargh, the lost time - one HOUR! If there were 2 of us, this would be child's play. Single rooms can get expensive - so hostels become your primary choice - not all are good. With 2 of you, hotel room prices become affordable. More than 2, i.e., 3 or 4 makes the most value for money sense especially if you hire apartments or quad rooms. In some places, group passes make a lot of sense. In some cases, like biking trips, more can be merrier. So think well before you travel. Enjoy!

Let your friends know you are going and what day you leave.  This gets them past the hypothetical travel plan, it's real and the train is leaving soon.  If they don't sign up then go alone.  Stay in hostels and pensiones.  They will be filled with travel buddies.
