How much money do I need to go to Paris?

  • Hey, I'm going to paris for a week with my friends and my mom senior year so how much money do we need to get so we don't die of starvation?

  • Answer:

There a number of things you need to find the prices for, and it's impossible for anyone here to advise you without more information. Planes: You will need to work out airfares from an International Airport in your country to Paris. Depending on where you live you might also need an additional flight, or train, to get you to the International Airport. Hotels: Paris has a wide range of hotels of all prices. It's better to stay in the centre of Paris as you then have access to all the tourist sights, without worrying too much about transport. Hotel prices can range from 60euros up to thousands of euros! I really suggest you visit a travel agent to get an idea of plane and hotel prices. Or, have a look at Webjet where you can compare prices of different airlines: http://www.webjet.com Food: doesn't have to be expensive. You can eat quite well with breakfast of croissant and coffee at a cafe; lunch and dinner can be from the supermarket or local fresh food markets, where you can buy salads, yoghurt, fruit, soft drink, whatever you want really. Eat in cafes that are not in tourist areas, and sometimes that can mean just around the corner from a tourist sight. Most cafes/restaurants have a Plat de Jour (dish of the day) which will be the cheapest meal in the cafe, and can be more than one course. You all need to take out travel insurance before you travel just to cover an unexpected medical/hospital/dental bills. Then there is the cost of sightseeing. Buy a guidebook to Paris, this will include the cost of all sights, give advice on hotels, food, and everything else you might need. Then you can work out a budget.

Paris is not cheap at all. But it depends on your type of vacations. If you want real hotels, don't stay in the center of Paris. Way too expensive, and the subway goes anywhere anyways. So just find a nice hotel outside the city center and close to a subway station. But still count a good 100$ per night per room. Hostels can also be a nice and cheap option. For the food, it's expensive. Count a good 40-50$ per day if you plan on going to restaurants for 3 meals (in basic restaurants). The subway is not cheap: buy tickets in groups (like 20 tickets). And activities are not cheap either. Versailles, Louvre, etc... plan money for that. Wine is sometimes cheaper than water... ;-) Honestly, plan a good 1000$ for a 'normal' trip. But you can definitelyy go down to like 700$ if you stay in cheaper places and check everything.
