What's it like living in Paris?

  • Hi I was wondering if anyone could tell me their daily life, or cool things or anything about living in Paris. Price of things, living conditions (in apartments) people etc?

  • Answer:

Paris is marvellous in all aspects. Cost of living moderate, but depends on how you want to live. Appartments costly. Anyway it's a to visit.

I love Paris, there is so much to do. I lived in Vanves, which is a suburb outside the city. it is very cheap and it is not like the other suburbs. I was close to the metro, and from vanves to the city only took five to ten minutes. that is the great thing about Paris. it probably has the best public transit system. waiting for the metro would take less than five minutes, because as soon as one left, another would come in like two minutes.be sure to do your research, because in Paris, the suburbs means quite the opposite of what it means here. over in France, the suburbs are where the majority of immigrants reside, and they are looted and poor places. the outside of Paris has lots of them. Saint-Ouen has the biggest flea in Paris, so go there but be careful because the suburb it is in is very dirty and i didnt feel safe walking alone, even though there were lots of other tourists there as well. admission to the louvre is free during the last Sunday of every month, and the musee d'orsay has a few free days or discounts if you are a student. the catacombs are very cool, but dont go if you are afraid of the dark or dislike skeletons. it is an underground tunnel where the walls are aligned with human skeletons. also, go the the sacre-couer, it has the best view of the city. not far from there is moulin rouge. i do not thin it is the red light district, but there are a lot of sex toy shops and sex museums in the area where the moulin rouge is located. you can also take the train to the vallee marnee, which is where you can go outlet shopping. they have good brands and high end brands. the people overall, are nice. they are not over friendly as what you would find in here in the USA, but once you have their trust, they are very loyal. my cousin lives there and fortunately i got the opportunity to spend time with her and her friends. they are a very tight knit community, and it they acted like one big happy family. they acted in a manner i would never see here in the USA, but that is because in the US, we still have our reservations with our close friends. in France, they let everything out in the open, and they are considerate of other people. my roommates attended free fashion shows at la fayette. la fayette is a big mall, but trust me, i couldn't afford anything because it was a high end mall. overall, clothes are pretty affordable especially during the Grand Solde which occurs during the summer. it is the black Friday of France, except the grand solde lasts for weeks as opposed to one day. the possibilities are endless. just be sure to take a rest day, like Sundays. it seemed like everything in France was closed on Sundays. In Paris there are a few stores opened, but the streets will feel empty and most likely, the only people on the streets will be other Americans or foreigners.

Hi Taylor, Ive been looking to move to Paris too. It is an amazing city. Truly amazing !!! The food is awesome, the people are so lovely (contrary to popular belief) and there is so much to do. The problem comes with accommodation - because ideally you should reside between the 1st and 14th arrondissements (districts) and it is not cheap. If you are looking to share it should be much easier. I have been looking for a studio, and in Paris a studio costs around 1200 EUR - 1500 EUR per month and a lot of them are dated, and dont even have a proper bed... Asides from that, I cannot wait to move there either!
