    Unlike other famous European cathedrals, such as Westminster Abbey in London, there is very little evidence now of burials in Notre Dame de Paris. While bodies were buried in Notre Dame, tombs were destroyed during the French Revolution in 1793. At the same time much of the cathedral's treasure was stolen and the interior badly damaged. In the last 100 years or so, French people who have served their country in a significant way have been buried in the vault of the Pantheon in Paris (Louis Pasteur was to have been buried in Notre Dame, but instead was buried at the Pantheon). And the Parisian cemeteries of Pere Lachaise and Montparnasse also contain many graves of famous French people.

the hunchback of Notre Dame but, of course, that is fiction.... it is a cathedral, not a cemetery.... maybe you are confusing it with Italy and Vatican City? Or London?

Notre Dame was only one of many churches and cathedrals in Paris. It is famous because it is the last survivor of the medieval cathedrals but as cathedrals went it was no more important than the others. The important church was in fact St Denis cathedral, where the kings went to be anointed when they became kings. The few tombs that existed were destroyed during the revolution and afterwards famous people were either buried in a secular monument (the Pantheon) or in a famous cemetery (Pere Lachaise).
