Answer:
Well, you have some nice friends bc hotels and car rentals can cost a fortune. It really depends on how big of a spender you are. $100/day should be more than enough though a really frugal person could get by on as little as $35/day (buying groceries, getting a "pass" good for entry into several museums, etc.). Eating out can be a lot cheaper (and still good) if you eat at a local bistro instead of a 5 star restaurant. Most of the bigger stores and restaurants take plastic (Visa/MC). Not so many take Amex. The gas for the car will be expensive (last time I checked which was years ago, it was $8/gallon) and probably costs more now. BTW, call your credit card company before you leave. O/W they may panic and think your card has been stolen when you start using your card in France.

That really all depends on what types of places you're planning to go. Are you looking to go to dinner in fancier restaurants or just casual eateries? What type of sightseeing? Museums or just around the city? Best way is to list places where you want to go and look them up online. For instance, tickets for the Louvre museum are about 9.5 euros for regular visits. You can get in free if you meet certain requirements or for only 6 euros on Wednesdays. Anyway, the point is, list the places you want to see and figure out how much it'll cost. That'll give you a very basic idea. Remember to include money for gas - you shouldn't expect to have that paid for by your friends. Gas in Europe is filled and charged by the liter, not the gallon, so it's way more expensive. If you are sightseeing in Paris, it's cheaper and easier to take public transportation. If you're strapped for cash, work backwards. Figure out how much you can spend per day and see what you can afford. Maybe instead of drinks, do more sights, or if dining is a priority, then forego other things. Another way to figure out how much to bring would be to ask the friends you're staying with about it. Just email them what you'd like to do and see and they should be able to help you figure out about how much to carry with you.

Maybe you can judge by this, being you already have a place to stay.. I stayed for 3-1/2 days this past March. It was my first trip to Europe. I paid 60 euros per night for the hotel and hit about 2 museums per day at about 18 euros. I didn't go into any restaurants, but I did notice that most of the lunches were about 15 euros (plus drinks). Dinner can be about 30 euros per person with drinks if you're careful. If you want to have only one meal in a restaurant, add about 20-25 euros/day for plenty of sandwiches/snacks/sodas/fruits and veggies at the many local corner markets. It's almost impossible to find a parking spot in town, so I would suggest taking the metro..there is a weekly pass that you have to get by Tuesday for it to be valid that week..otherwise, buying it after Tuesday, it will only be good the following week. The carnet (10 tickets) is a good buy..brings the price down to about .80/ticket. The tourist booth at the airport can sell you a weekly pass to the museums, so that might be better for you..altho, personally, I found that I had enough with the museums..get out and see the town. Take the metro to certain districts (Marias, Pantheon, Montmarte, Arc, La Defense, Latin Quarter, Canal St Martin, Place de Vosges(sp?), Pere LaChaise cementary (see Jim Morrison's grave)...and WALK AROUND FOR FREE! Google "free museums in paris" and one of them is the Museum of the Vie Romantic (somewhere south and west of Place Blanche). Check out the Deux Moulins at 15 Rue Lepic (it was in the movie Amelie). There is an abandoned elevated railway that was turned into a pedestrian walkway that starts west of the Bastille and goes towards Bercy..it goes all the way to the Perepherique roadway..nice walk. The top of the Tour Montparnesse has a nice nighttime view of the Eiffel..the line at the Eiffle was over 3 hours when I went and the top view is not as good at the intermediate level which you can get via the stairs and not wait so long. There are usually nighttime free concerts all over town, in particular, there is a park at the north end of the St Martin Canal (villette?) that holds concerts..it even has a submarine. I'm not sure what the clubs would cost..but my travel book says that most have a small cover charge plus a drink..maybe 10-15 euros. A side note..my credit cards didn't work, I think it was because I never got a pin for them..however, my debit card (U.S. bank) did work (I got cash out) and the exchange rate was slightly better than what I got when I ordered 400 euros from my local bank before I left. (a British guy told me that gas was $7.00/gallon). 2 of the metro lines travel a bit above ground (Barbes Rouchechart (Montmarte district) and the Berkheim by the Eiffel, so they are good for sight seeing. Also, you can take a regular bus around town pretty cheaply..I'm not sure..but I think the metro pass is also good for the BatoBus..go along the Seine...have fun! (there is a balloon ride west of the Eiffel..@ Parc Citreon (named after the car).

Paris can be very expensive city to live in but since you'll be staying with your friends then it all depends on your life style.for an example;you can have light breakfast in a Cafe for 5 to 6 Euros, launch in the US Golden Arch and for dinner you can have a Baguette or Croissant, cold cuts and some water or Soda ...et Voila for the day or enjoy your time in the City for about one hundred Euros daily if you can afford it . Note : to be on the safe side try to use the ATM machine instead of carrying a large some of money on you.
