hi there! first, paris is the place to be :) Second, if you can just get familiar with some basic french phrases / words, it is great. French people LOVE tourist who "try" to speak their language :) But if you approach someone in france, and start with english ( whcih they 80% of the cases DO NOT UNDERSTAND) it annoys them a little bit... and they just brush you off. Not because of YOU , just because THEY do not undersatnd what you are saying :) third, you will find thousands of website, top 10 things to do in Paris. http://travel.aol.com/articles/top-10-local-attractions-in-paris many many many more out there. just google it, or yahoo it :) but to me Eiffel tower, Arc de triomph, Louvre, quai de la seine, bateau mouche, It all depends how many days you are going to Paris. a little tip. Use the public transportation, IT IS THE BEST , metro. if you arrive in paris a Monday or tuesday, it's better to buy a weekly, unlimited passe for zone 1 - 2 ONLY zone 1-2 is more than enough for you. the airport CDG is located in zone 5, you really don;t need anything further than zone 2. it is more than enough for tourist. there is nothing to see outside Paris zone 3-4-5. Moreover the red , city buses, are nice too, they take you directly to the tourist places. You can find all the information here... http://ratp.fr/ http://www.ratp.fr/en/ratp/c_21879/tourists/ I strongly advise you to PLAN everything ahead of time, cuz most of the time the ticket offices in summer, in the metro station are SO SO CROWED, the people sitting their, "helping" the tourist have a very basic basic english knowlegde. So do your homework beforehand. if you need more help, email me.

First of all, Mina is correct about everything! I would definitely try to learn a few phrases in French. The French people are very friendly and helpful if you at least attempt to speak with them in french. My favorite thing to do in Paris is to just walk and get lost. There are so many metro stops that you'll never be too far from one. It's a great way to see the "real" Paris, one with fewer tourists. I also love the Eiffel Tower, but my favorite view of it is from the Place du Trocadero (Metro Trocadero). If you arrive just before dusk, you can watch it being lit up. It's pretty spectacular. From here you can walk to the base. I also love the Place des Vosges (Metro St. Paul or Bastille), a quiet square where Victor Hugo once lived. Really, it's hard to go wrong in Paris! Where are you going in the south of France? I like Aix-en-Provence, Montpellier, and Toulouse.

MMM-hole
