Best places to go in Paris, France?

I visited Paris 7 times before I went to the Louvre because the city is so rich in color that I simply didn't find the time till my 8th visit. My advice is to start with a hokey Paris by night bus tour. It will end with a sound and light show with a tribute to the Revolution. Spend time stolling down Blvd St Michel and sit at a cafe near the Sorbonne, later in the day enjoy some of the great clubs for music and dancing. Try dinner in the Marais , visit Sacre Coeur at night if there are clear skies and a full moon (so romantic)-if not go in the day, also in check out Pere Lachaise Cemetary and Mantparnasse Cemetery both rich in history and hauntingly beautiful, spend and afternoon on the Isle de la Cite where you will undoubtly go to Notre Dame. Take a Bateux Mouche on the Sienne-relaxing and it gives you an overview and you can pick it up near Notre Dame or the Eiffel Tower. Of course you'll see the Eiffel Touwr and the Arch de Triumph as well but the view of the Trocedaro has been spoiled in recent years by permitting a zillion North African street merchants to be hawking their wares right on the most beautiful prospect in Paris. Either climb to the top of Notre Dame or up the steps of Sacre d'Coeur for the best views of the city ... without having to do the crowded and exorbitant ride to the top of Eiffel's mistake. (Some good bargin shopping in the streets at the foot of Sacre d'Coeur, too.) Go to the free Sunday organ concert at Saint Sulpice, walk the Jardin de Luxembourg and the Tuilleries. Stop for drinks, shopping, and people watching on the Champs-Élysées. Visit the famous graves at Père Lachaise cemetery. And spend every evening at a sidewalk cafe or restaurant for wonderful food and drink. Oh, and rather than stay in a hotel, get a short-term apartment rental. They're all over the city, in a wide variety of prices -- but cheaper than hotels -- and book up early so look NOW. It's a wonderful way to feel like a temporary resident of the city. Wander around the Marais section right next to Place de Bastille. It's full of lovely quaint streets and shops. Visit St. Paul's church. Have a piece of luxurious chocholate at Jadis et Gourmande in 39, rue des Archives. For restaurants: 1) Le dome du Marais in 53, rue Francs-Bourgeois ; 2) Chez Julien, a bistro at 1,rue du Pont Louis-Philippe 3) Or take your chance in any place that's attractive to you. Stick to the prie fix meals -- a set meal for a cheaper price that day -- and you won't have a bad meal! (I've only had 1 so-so meal in Paris over the course of many months.) For touristy: forget the Eiffel. The surrounding Jardin de Luxembourg is gorgeous though, and if you want to splurge on one meal/event, across the boulevard is Le Petit Journal, a wonderful jazz club and restaurant. Go to Sacre d'Coeur for the best view of the entire city -- it's the highest hill in Paris -- without having to pay. You'll also find lots of shops, including bargains, at the foot. Sacre d'Coeur is a lovely chuch, you see in dazzling white in many pictures of Paris. And don't forget to hit a nice boulangerie and fromagerie for a baguette and some brie to eat on a bench by the Seine. You'll find them everywhere, but my favorits are along the river around the islands. There are many pet shops on Quai de la Mégisserie (between La Samaritaine and Chatelet). Around the Sacre Coeur you have a really nice view over the city and there are lots of other cute places in montmartre to take pictures. The view rom the Eiffel Tower is also really nice. April isn't extremely touristy so you could go up without waiting for hours. I also like The Marais. It is a very old neighborhood with lots of unique shops and small streets. It's just really fun there, also to go out for dinner. Around the Seine is also very beautiful to take pictures. Ile de la cité is nice too. The Notre Dame is beautiful and there are lots of cute little streets. I don't know any pet shops, never really paid attention to that. But I am sure there are plenty because you see so many dogs in Paris. (and dog poo)
