The drinking age in France is technically 18 but it is perfectly acceptable for French families to allow their kids to drink wine with their meals. It's important to note the French don't really binge drink like Americans. If you go to a huge club, I think they'll care more about how you are dressed and if you can cough up the cover charge more than they care how old you are.

So technically and in theory, you have to be 18 years old to purchase alcohol as well as drink it in a public place. However, this is usually disregarded by most establishments, although some are more rigorous than others (ie night clubs, especially in Paris, are reputed to be pretty strict). I know 13 year olds who drink in bars and no one asks, but obviously try not to attract attention. Also, keep in mind that it's theoretically illegal to drink or even be drunk in the street, but once again the main rule is, don't attract attention.

When I was in France they told us that the drinking age was 16. I was 14 when we went and I went to bars, clubs, and bought alcohol from bars. I'm 18 now so I guess it's the same. Please though be careful and don't go out alone, believe me one night almost turned into a very bad situation, but other than that enjoy the sights, love the food, experience everything, and I hope you have the time of your life. oh if you get a chance to go to the red light district do it, it's crazy, and sometimes gross but the moulin rouge is worth seeing at least once! =) same thing with sacred heart!

There is no age limit really [obviously young children not advised to drink] but to purchase alcohol you have to be 16 or over.
