We will be in France in March. After we see Paris, we have 5 days left to see more of France. Any ideas ?

Let's see now. You already have Paris, Tuscany, the Cinqueterra, and Rome to see. How many months will you be in Europe? Seriously, unless you are going to be spend a couple of months in Europe there is simply no reason to exhaust yourself by running from one tourist destination to another. I know that you've probably seen all those Rick Steve's travel shows where he does a ten cities in two weeks but remember, for all his popularity, he's a guy who runs tour buses. (And please note that if there's any tourist who hasn't heard about the Cinqueterra they must be deaf, dumb and blind....Its vastly overrated) Paris and Rome are worth at least 5-7 days each. If you travel from one to the other by train then perhaps stops in Aix en Provence or Nice, and Genoa or Florence might be something you could fit in between them. Just consider that every stop you add to your itinerary is another train station or airport you waste time in, another train/plane ride, another hotel you have to find, and another couple of hours packing and unpacking. Sure you can see 14 cities in 14 days but then you will have spent half your time on the logistics of travel instead of enjoying your travel.

Take an up-to-date map with you, or, preferably, have a look at one before you go. Rome might not be in France any more.

How about a spot of history - visit the Normandy beaches where the D-Day landings took place. There are plenty of relics from the war and museums. It'll take you about 4-5 hours to drive there from Paris. France is a BIG country! Edit- sorry if I'm misunderstanding you, but Rome and Tuscany are in Italy not France!

I would recommend Bordeaux - you can get there on a TGV (fast train - takes 3 hours). Bordeaux has a uniform style of architecture I've seen hardly anywhere else in Europe, and very beautiful. Then the countryside around there is beautiful too - small towns like Bergerac and Perigueux, the Dordogne valley. Or Cahors, which has a more mediterranean feel (perhaps after Tuscany you won't need this). If you don't want to go so far, how about a town in the Loire valley, like Tours or Angers (about one hour by train from Paris). They both have museums, galleries, and yes, (sigh) shops.

La Rochelle in France is really lovely - it's a small seaside town, with some nice shopping, loads of gorgeous restaurants and a suprising amount of good bars! So either way if you're after a quiet holiday, or a bit of both, this is a good place to go for a few days! Tips for Paris - try to speak as much French as you can - take a phrase book if needed :)

You can visit the Loire Valley Castels ( http://www.chateauxtourisme.com/isla/en/ ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loire_Valley ), it's not far form Paris and then you can go to Normandy. Or You can go to Lyon (http://www.en.lyon-france.com/), it takes 2 hours by TGV and then you can go to Marseilles (it takes another 2 hours froms Lyon by Tgv).

If you want to see Rome, you really need to devote at least a week. We had just a one day taster of Rome and the Vatican City off a Med cruise. There is so much to see that we left feeling dissatisfied having just seen the tip of the iceberg. Save it for a real holiday not a brief visit. After your time in the Capital, why not take a contrasting break and visit, as suggested, the Battlefields and cemeteries or just "crash out" in the West Coast area of Finistere/Bretagne? One of our favourite areas was around Pont Aven with maybe a trip to Port Manech for some sea and sand.

Normandie-Caen-Etretat (stayed there for 3 months and loved it!). Provance and Nice are also options... Mont st michael not as cool as people make it out to be...in my opinion

The Louvre museum The Luxembourg Garden The Tulleries Garden Tour Eiffel (Eiffel Tower), which has a cafe Place de la Bastille Go to several shops along the "Champs-Elysees" Champs de Mars The Ferris Wheel at the Place de la Bastille Arc de Triomphe Montparnasse Train Station Montparnasse Tower Gare de Lyon Train Station The shops along the Gare de Lyon Montmartre, which includes the Sacre-Coeur cathedral You can also get a boat ride to go along the Seine river.
