Oh God...not this again!!! Please people...don't feed the troll. If you really are letting your python loose in the house all the time...stop it! It's people like you that are helping various organizations make it illegal to own pythons at all. All snakes should be properly and securely caged for their safety and yours. Your snake is most likely attempting to warm up...they don't "size up prey" to see if it's too large. Snakes attack and eat prey of all sizes. If it turns out to be too large, they'll regurgitate it....

How do you work out what a python is feeling? You really ought to consult a vet about your thoughts on the snake being ill .... but I sense that the snake simply is attracted to the warmth of your sleeping body. Frankly I wouldn't want a python anywhere near me when I'm sleeping, in fact at any time! You say that you are 'close' to your snake .... do snakes actually show affection? I cannot imagine a snake doing anything other than what's necessary for it's survival, so I suggest you stop this practice now.

I may be wrong but I've heard that when snakes do that they may be measuring up to you to get ready to eat you! It may sound weird but I'm not joking, this actually does happen. You may want to check with a vet.

It is likely the warmth of your body draws the snake to you at night. It is not wise to sleep with a snake. I use to do it with my boa when she was little, until I considered the possible outcomes. One, You could easily harm your snake by rolling over on top of your snake while sleeping and breaking the snakes spine or ribs. This would result in a dead snake, an expensive vet bill, or a bloody snake bit. Another is it could possibly suffocate you by innocently coiling around your neck when sleeping and hold a little tightly...for its security. I am very close with my snake as well, but I now think in best interest of my snakes health as well as my own.

I used to this with my old burmese python. Usually its for warmth. I've also heard some stories of snakes that feel more secure with their owner. One of my ball pythons won't let anyone else feed it when I'm not around. With the secure thing, think of this: when snakes look for protection, they go to a place that they feel is safe such as its hide spot. So maybe it's looking for protection when roaming in your room, and it can't find anything to hide under, it goes next to you because it thinks you will protect it. The protection thing is usually not the case thought it's usually just for warmth. The whole snake sizing up that lady story is fake. With that story what actually happened was the lady was playing with her dog and then holding the snake (which was a burmese python, a kind of snake that tends to think its feeding time when you open the enclosure). She noticed it was acting funny and took it to the vet. The vet said it was just the snake responding to the smell of the dog. Then a few days later she played with the dog and then held the snake. The snake bit her, NOT killing her. The snake let go because the lady put it under water. Snakes do not eat people. Since 1950 ( which was when the first large constrictor came to the US), there has only been 3 deaths and they were all from owners not being responsible

It is trying to see if you will fit

I heard a story about a lady who had a snake who kept lying next to her in a straight line when she was sleeping and her snake wasnt eating anymore so she took it to the vet and the vet said that the snake was getting ready to eat her because the snake was lying next to her to see if she would fit... weird but yeah so this might be what your snake is doing if it is lying in a straight line next to you...

Ok firstly is it lying in a line or curled up? If tis curled then your fine. however there was a story where a lady had her python sleep with her in a line next to he ron the bed adn she took it to the vet who made her go somewhere else and it happened to be that it was measuring up to see the size it had to grow to eat her. This sometimes happens, but it shouldnt sleep next to your anyway, put it in the vivarium.

Probably too cold in your house. Keep her in her cage when you sleep or she may get sick or hurt herself on something.
