Is Rennes, France safe to visit alone?

    Rennes is a lovely city and I think quite safe as cities go. As in all cities there are parts to avoid usually near the station late at night. However if you're really interested in Le Mont St. Michel, Rennes is a bit far and the train doesn't go there. I suggest staying in St. Malo which is really more interesting in a way than Rennes and its closer by far. It is touristy but in a nice way. Alot to see and do and loads of bars and restaurants and beach. Ferries go there from the UK also. If you're flying into Paris, the TGV goes to St. Malo. It is certainly more visited than Rennes and is quite close to the Mont St Michel.

I suggest you stay in a small hotel on the sea - there are so many smaller towns with much more to offer than Rennes. Avranches is close by and very nice views of Mont St. Michel and the channel.
