Where should I study to be a medical computer programmer?

What are the essential self-study topics for a programmer working in a systems software product company who has no formal education in Computer Science?

  • I have been working as a programmer for over ten years and have majored in manufacturing engineering. My only formal computer science education was at the university where I studied C programming and a smattering of Unix. I have done reasonably well for myself in the industry so far but feel I could have done a lot better with formal education. However getting back to college is not an option. What are the best sources for self-study?

  • Answer:

I think that http://www.codecademy.com and http://www.udacity.com/ are some of the best resources available online to learn how to program. And they're both completely free! I think will be particularly good for you as they have more advanced CS topics you can learn, including (university-level) CS theory you may not have learned on the job.
