If you have a stan alone receiver then you would connect every thing to the receiver using HDMI cable. Then you connect an HDMI cable from the receiver output to the tv HDMI input. If you have one of those home theater in a box, most of them does not provide any input at all. Hope this will help you out.

You connect one HDMI cable from each device to the HDMI input on the receiver. You connect the one out from the receiver to the TV. If you do not have enough HDMI inputs, get an automatic HDMI switcher like this http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-Switch-Switcher-1-Out-Pigtail/dp/B008GVOVK0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1353876029&sr=8-1&keywords=three+port+HDMI+switch

Connect everything to the receiver, the video will be passed through to the TV by selecting the input on the receiver The receiver will need at least three HDMI inputs for the bluray player, xbox, and cable box The TV will plug into the HDMI output

You connect your cable box, blu ray player & xbox to the receiver's hdmi inputs. You connect the receiver's hdmi output to the TV's hdmi input.
