    There really isn't much to explain on this one... the hands get better as the combination of numbers go up. The lowest you can possibly get is a 4 (pair of 2's). The best you can get is 21 (blackjack - an ace paired with a king/queen/jack/ten). Just go from there. Also, remember you don't have to sit on a low number - you can always draw more cards to improve your hand, with the maximum value being 21. If your combination of cards goes over 21, you bust and lose the hand.

The best hand is a natural blackjack. This hand consists of an Ace and a 10 or face card. You win or push with this hand. If you win then you get paid at 3 to 2 odds in most casinos. The next best hand is a 21. It takes at least 3 cards to make a 21. A 21 can result in a push. A winning wager is paid at even money. Then comes the 20, 19, 18, 17. Next comes 11 down to 7 because one card can turn any of these hands into a 17 or better without the risk of busting. 2 through 6 are the next best hands. Taking a card won't bust any of these hands. 12 through 16 are the worst hands because one card can bust any of them.

I'm going to guess you really don't know anything about the game if you were to ask that. 21 is better than 20, then 19, 18, 17... I'll guess that doesn't mean anything to you though.

I'll disagree with most of the people here. If we're talking about the first 2 cards, then of course a natural blackjack is best. 20 is next to the best. I'd also go with 19 as being third. After that, I'd much rather get an 11 or a 10 than an 18 or a 17.
