Answer:
The only cable you need our TV is the Video cable, whether it be Composite (Yellow), SVideo, Component (RGB) or DVI/HDMI. You don't need the audio to TV and here's why. Most TVs speakers are only 8 - 10 watts. Some HDTVs may be as high as 30. When you connect the audio sources to your Surround Sound receiver, the receiver is able to separate te appropriate channels and send the corrrect sound signals to the appropriate speakers. When you send the same signals to a TV set with 2 stereo speakers all of the info is sent to the processor in the TV and the signal is artificially compreessed into those speakers..(this is not the same as downmixing) and all your audios will come out of the TV speakers except the LFE effects. The problem with this is that if you have your surround sytem on and the TV speakers on at a reasonable level, the sound will not sound as intended, in fact , if the delays on the receiver arenot set peoperly, the audio coming out of the surround system will not be in sync with the audio coming out of TV, it will sound like a memnetary echo, or very hallow. Some newer TVs can sync up better but you still have backround sounds coming out of the TV and that can drown out the dialogue channel. The better designed systems are designed to boost the center channel when there is dialogue present, bost the backround when the sound effects are to be heard. Using the TV speakers as a second Center channel can be achieved if you are knowledgeable about setting the appropriate sound delays in the receiver. The only time you wont need to do this is if you are watching cable or sattelite TV and have the cable box audio going to both the TV and the receiver.

You need some means of conveying the TV audio to the surround unit - the tv should have red & white RCA/Phono sockets or a scart socket if it is a european TV - either of these will output audio suitable for your surround system. Possibly HDMI sockets may do the same job but as I don't have a TV with one of those yet I cannot advise, but I assume an HDMI socket does the same job as a scart (someone will no doubt correct me if I am wrong). If the surround system has its own TV tuner you will still need some sort of connection between the two so that if the surround system tuner is set to a different channel to the TV, you only get the sound for the picture being shown - a scart lead will do this - but if you dont have scart sockets on your tv then I'm not sure how this would be controlled.

You will need wires all over the place going from the amp to the speakers, but to the tv you will need only the red and white ended wires. If you havent got the connection in your back of TV, you can get scart sockets. You plug the wires into your socket and then the scart into the back, otherwise you might have to have wires fromthe front of your TV and that doesnt look nice
