What's a good HD reciever?

Can my cable company's HD reciever act as a a/v reciever for my Dolby 5.1 sound?

  • Theoretically, can't I just hook up the 5 speakers to the HD reciever. I see alot of componet hook-ups besides the normal HD componets. I was figuring those must be for speakers. ...show more

  • Answer:

there are usually not speaker hookups on the back of the cable company receivers. If there are 5 hookups for speakers, then you can...but usually there's just an audio output that goes into your receiver.

Other answers

An HD receiver, as you called it, is simply the cable box that receives the TV signal from the incoming coax cable. What you need is a Home Theatre system with a stereo amp capable of delivering 5:1 surround sound . Also, for the true effect, you need a sub-woofer, otherwise, no bass. Most of these Home Theatre systems have a built in DVD player too.
