    The biggest cities in Brazil have a bad public education... because the poorest people usually don't want to study, so they disturb the ones who want to. But private schools are as good as American and British ones! Small and medium cities in Brazil usually have a good public education. But don't think that they study as long as you do. They go to school at 7 am and finish at 11:20, if they study in the morning. If they study in the afternoon, they go at 12:30 and finish at 5. Extra activities include Chass, football, handball and volley.

The public school and high school in Brazil are dire, but Private schools are great. and the public college are great. There are many PRIVATE American and British schools in Brazil.

I assume you are talking about high-schools (9th to 11th / 12th grade). There is a test that all high-school students must do about the end of their senior year, called ENEM. Based on that, high-schools are ranked. You can find such list in http://educacao.uol.com.br/ultnot/2008/04/03/enem2007_melhores_riodejaneiro.jhtm but also in http://educacao.uol.com.br/ultnot/2009/04/28/ult1811u269.jhtm. As you can see, the best schools are private. Public education in Brazil is not very good. (as it goes to universities, however, there are very good public universities). If you are American / British, you'd better go to an American / British school, because otherwise most classes will be taught in Portuguese. (I assume you are not proficient in Portuguese).
