I have a HDTV with HD Channels, Xbox 360, PS3, and a surround sound system. How will i connect all of these?

  • I hope use all my devices with hdmi onto the TV (Contains 4 HDMI Inputs) and surround sound system. Will i need a receiver, or do i just hook it up to the TV? I'm very new to this ...show more

It sounds like you should route everything through your TV... plug the Xbox and PS3 (and maybe a cable box) into your HDTV with HDMI cables. Search the internet for good deals on those (possibly ebay). Generally, they all work unless you need a really long (15ft+) cable. HDMI cables in stores are EXPENSIVE. Anyway, Plug all the devices into the TV with HDMI. Plug the TV into your "home theater system" with an optical cable (hopefully the HDTV has an optical audio out jack and the HT system has optical in). Routing everything through the TV and just using the "HT system" for sound will eliminate some confusion over picking inputs, because the HT system will never need to change inputs. As well, you'll be able to just use the TV for quiet listening. Note that even if you have all the requirements (optical out, optical in, etc) you may need to change some settings on each device to get them working... sometimes TVs don't have sound output enabled until you go into the tv menu and turn it on... stuff like that)

The Xbox 360 will connect via HDMI to the amp and then the amp will connect via HDMI to the TV. You can then connect your TV via optical to the amp so you can have Pro-Logic II while watching TV programmes. If you want to add a PS3, you can also connect that to the amp via HDMI so you can enjoy Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA soundtracks.

I recommend using AV Receiver and good speaker since you have a lot of HDMI devices to connect. Buy Onkyo 606 for AV Receiver. It's offering good value of money (4 HDMI input, 1 HDMI output, DTS HD and Dolby TruHD coding, 100W per channel speaker) for around US$400-600.

Does your TV have a separate audio out? if so you can plug the SPeaker system into the audio out on the TV and then Plug the consoles into the HDMI ports on the TV. I did this with my TV and it works fine.
