What is an External Tuner and do I need one to use my vcr/dvd combo to record broadcast television shows?

If you have analog cable, you will need a old VCR or an external analog cable box or tuner. Many new DVD/VCR combos do not have a tuner. In other words you need something that can tune the cable channels and convert that to video/audio for your DVD/VCR.
