How To Connect Two Different Network Segments Using A Switch And A Router?

Over Ethernet, how can I connect two computers without using a hub, switch, or existing network?

  • Answer:

Crossover cable! You also need to setup the IP's manually, because they will not connect automatically. Put them in the same network subnet, but dont give them the same IP.

Use a crossover cable.

I believe you could do it with a crossover ethernet cable connected between the network cards of each computer. Hubs are so cheap though .

You need a crossover cable and set up your computer. Here is a link with the same question. http://kb.iu.edu/data/aeii.html

What you are looking for is an Ethernet Crossover Cable. You should be able to pick one up at your local computer shop. Just make sure you realize that you are looking for a crossover cable, not a standard Ethernet cable (which requires a network device like a router/switch/hub).

You can simply connect the two using a cross-over cable
