How To Crochet Turkish Edging?

How do you crochet an edging on a flannel baby blanket?

  • I bought some flannel to make baby blankets but don't know what edgings I could use other than crochet. Any ideas? Thanks

  • Answer:

Start with a small row of hand sewn blanket stitch around the edges with the yarn you will put the crocheted edging onto and then use these stitches like a base chain. If your crochet hook is sharp enough, or you have a sewing awl, you can also pierce the fabric and simply crochet through it.

Here is a link to a tutorial on how to make a blanket stitch. These are good for most kinds of blankets, they're very common and simple. Good luck! http://primrosedesign.blogspot.com/2006/11/stitch-school-blanket-stitch.html

On "Sewing with Nancy" (LPB) , I saw on her show where she put a surger stitch on the edge of the fabric and crocheted on the serged part. I also saw on the same show where there was crochet with a serger, they called it "Serger Crochet". It was interesting. This would be a type of machine crochet. Chrisi T.
