It happen too many times to too many people. The screen of death ! The last time i had one was real bad- motherboard finally crashed, but luckily my hard disk data is still intact. If you do have the chance to go into safe mode or safe- recovery - after the dust settled .better copy all your data into cds before the full corruption sets in to the H/disk. At least with the saved files ,you can do a full format on your old disk. Hopefully you do get a quick recovery soon.

You are half correct, BSOD's don't always wait for a keypress or restart some will force a restart automatically. In yoru case you probably have a problem with your boot sector this can be from many things, boot sector virus or damaged hard drive many possibilities, at this point you can most likely consider your data unrecoverable so I would try to do a re-format and clean install of windows, this can usually be done with a recovery disc. If your computer refuses to boot the recovery disk then you need to go into your bios setting and change yrou boot order, in order to do thins you need to turn on the computer and press one of the function keys on yoru keyboard before the computer tries to actually boot (usually F8 or F12 and sometimes F2) change yoru boot order to show your CD-ROM/CD drive as first on the list in boot order then save the settings int he BIOS menu and restart the computer with the recovery disk in the drive. The only other thing that will cause this kind of behavior is severe hardware conflicts such as a change in video card that for some reason forced the same address as another vital component, if you have recently installed any hardware try removing it and reinstallign the old hardware before trying to do a reformat just in case.

What were you doing on your computer when it froze? Holding down the button to turn it off should not cause the problem you're having. Edit: Try putting your Windows installation CD in the drive and turn the computer on. Select the Recovery Console option. In there should be some Automated Recovery you can do. Make sure your CD-ROM is set to boot before your hard drive in the BIOS.

its your driver, because i downloaded a new one witch made my computer freeze up when i got to that screen. To fix it, you have to wipe its memory witch can be done at a computer store.

BSODs are indicators of driver conflicts. You need to start in Safe mode and find what drivers you added last and remove it. Keep trying until it stops. At worst, you may have to reinstall the OS.
