Train From Brussels to Innsbruck (Austria)?

  • Answer:

You change trains in Cologne (Koeln) and Munich (Muenchen). The time between trains is less than an hour at each stop and the fare is about US$300 or more, one-way (depending on the schedule you select). http://www.raileurope.com/index.html

You can get there with one transfer in Zurich, Switzerland. The guy who claims you need to switch trains at least 3 times is wrong. The trip takes at least about 13 hours. Check out the english version of the Austrian railway company for routes and schedules etc. (www.oebb.at/en/index.jsp). Mind the route on railways, and avoid travelling further through Germany by train than necessary, since railways in Germany are extremely expensive (in Switzerland and Austria, the state supports the railways to keep ticket prices low). I would guess the price to be anywhere between 100-300€ one-way (as said, this is an estimate - you can only check prices at the counter at your local train station, as it depends on the route and trains you travel on; if you're lucky, they might still have the Brussels to Zurich for 30€ offer, but usually you need to book several weeks in advance to get that. The trip from Zurich to Innsbruck will again be around 40 €). I'd look for cheap flights, as that would save you 13+ hours of sitting in trains and train stations, and in addition quite some money (a round trip costs about € 200 if booked not too short-termed, you can find cheap flights and links to the carriers offering them at checkfelix.com). Enjoy your trip. This takes the fun out of answering questions on here, as some people (like me) actually take time to research and/or share their experiences - if the answer gets made invisible for no good reason, answering really is a total waste of time - after all, this service doesn't pay!

German rail won't help you here I'm afraid. Here is the site of the Austrian rail, its available in english as well and you can find a trip from Brussels to Innsbruck there. http://www.oebb.at/en/index.jsp
