  • Answer:

I think you're better off with choosing either an HP or an Epson model. HP has a good number of models in the $90-$140 range which have a good number of features and so does Epson.

Epson wins for best price/feature comparison, best warranty and lowest cost of ink. You can't beat their warranty. If anything goes wrong, they will fedex a replacement and pick up the old one at their expense. You can get ink for under 50 cents a cartridge at www.ccs-digital.com. You pay under 2.50 for reusable cartridges and then get $2 back for the empties. Or you can buy refillables (which is what Im using now) and refill yourself for pennies. Take a look at the workforce 3520, 3530 and 3540. They have received hundreds of rave reviews on Staples and Amazon from people who bought them. I saw the 3540 for 139 at Staples and Amazon and the 3530 was $119 at Walmart. If you want to save some money, look at the workforce 2540 or the XP400, decent printers but not quite as good.

You can dis-activate "Low ink level" warning, but the process of clean heads of printer is almost the same in every printer brand. Ink Cartridges nowadays, are with a chip inside and even if you fill them with ink by yourself, they will show no ink inside because you need to reset the chip of cartridge. This chip of cartridge, on the same time it is mounted to the printer, tells the printer if it is of the same model or not! This problem may rise with compatible ones on almost every printer brand. Another point is: in some printers each color cartridge is almost the same in appearance, and if you misplace them (I mean you put in wrong, Red to yellow's place and vice-verse), it will show warning dialog box on your screen and will stop printer for printing processes! As for recommending another printer, I use 2 HP and one Epson (professional ones) on my work for my processes and in my preview office we used Brother, but you have to valuate your needs more deeper: 1) Speed needed 2) Quality needed 3) Cost efficiency needed 4) Compatibility with your System(OS) needed. 5) Printing Mode needed (Laser or Inkjet, BW or Color, Color separated on process or not, max format supported) etc..

My Canon printer is happily using replacement cartridges. My specific model is no longer for sale, but I can recommend Canon in general.
