The printer doesn't recognize ink cartridge?

Why will my printer not recognize my ink cartridge?

  • I have an Epson. My printer was printing funny lines so i did a nozzle clean via the printer program. Worked fine then happened again. Now my printer wont recognize my ink cartridges. ...show more

  • Answer:

Cartridge recognition is built into the printer and doesnt require a connection to the computer. Disconnect the printer(s) from the computer and try to get them to ready mode. Sometimes Epsons give the "cartridge not recognized" error when the real error is that a cartridge is low on ink. And just to complicate matters, it doesn't always show the correct cartridge. You replace the black and then it notices the cyan is low but since the black was just replaced, it will continue complaining about the black. There is a problem with your software. Reinstall your printer software (you can get it off the internet).

Either your printer's broken, or you have the wrong ink cartridge (wrong type)

Your printer drivers aren't working correctly, if your printer won't even recognize your ink cartridges, or you got the wrong cartridges for your printer. Go to the Epson support website to download the latest drivers for your printer. Also, make sure your ink cartridges are from Epson. Don't ever buy knock off printer cartridges. Only buy the manufacturer's cartridge (i.e. Epson) and know and verify the numbers for both of your cartridges. If you need help, the printer's manual has the information you need or you can use the support website at Epson to look for the correct cartridge numbers. The cartridge numbers are VERY important. Use the link below to help you find what your looking for. Note: If you have Windows XP SP2, Vista, or Mac OS X or later, then you should have no problem with downloading and installing the right printer drivers. Look at the Operating System compatibility of printer drivers as well before you download the driver. Hope this helps you.
