Answer:
As others have pointed out, you dont want to print thousands of flyers yourself. You want to print the master and have a place like Kinkos, staples, officemax do the copies. Don't be so quick to dismiss scanning. At some point you may want to scan in photos or artwork for your flyers. Since you will be doing this professionally, there are two key points you should be looking at. One is cost of ink, which you already mentioned. The other is the warranty. Most printer companies make you ship back the printer (at your expense and printers are heavy) then wait a week or two until you get it back. Not a very good prospect if you need your printer for business. Epson will fedex a replacement by the next day. That alone makes epson worth considering. Add in free ink and no other company offers a better deal. The best deal in a photo printer is the Epson Artisan 800 refurb direct from epson.com for $109. It's a wireless copier/scanner/fax/photo/CD printer with 6 individual ink cartridges for high photo quality. For TWO years, Epson will fedex a replacement and pick up the old one should you need it. If that's beyond your budget there are several models in the $50-$80 range with 1 year warranty like the NX415 and workforce 600. Triple capacity ink cartridges for Epson are under $3 and you can get 11 free cartridges every month at http://www.ccs-digital.com/freeink.asp

I think anymore about all ink-jet printer are the same. You have to step-up to a laser printer. Also I think that is fliers.

The least expensive is from Xerox. I have no idea what models they have for simple printers but they have solid ink rather than liquid for ink jet systems or powder for laser printers. All in all, cost per page, etc., these come out the least expensive and the colour quality and print quality is exceptional.

I looked into this a while ago, I worked out that the cheapest way was to get them printed at a photo shop, using their cheapest print cost. :-)
