  • Answer:

The assumption is that you have a desktop attached to a printer (USB or else). 1. Make sure all computers see each other on your wireless network. a simple task, setup your Microsoft home network with a common network name (change the default mshome)' 2. Make sure the printer works well on the attached computer. 3. printer driver installed on both the laptop and the desktop. 4. Printers are set as a default printer.

I'm going to assume you're using Windows XP or Vista, and that all of the computers you're using are connected to the wireless network already. What you need to do, on the computer where the printer is installed, is click the start button and go to the control panel. From there, go to "Printers and Faxes." In the window that pops up, select the printer, right click it, and click on "sharing." Select the button "share this printer" and give it an easy to remember name. On the computers you're trying to share it with, go into the Printers and Faxes screen the same way. Under "Printer tasks" on the left side of the screen, choose "Add a printer." The add printer wizard should start. Click "next" and select "Network printer, or printer attached to another computer." Click next, select "Browse for a printer," and hit next again. Browse through the computers on your network until you find the one the printer is connected to, and select the shared printer. Choose yes or no to decide if you want to use the printer as the default, then click next. Click finish, and the printer should be installed and ready to use.

You need to go through the Network Setup Wizard in Control Panel, and make sure the network workgroup your laptop is on is the same one your printer's host is on, plus that File and Printer Sharing is enabled on BOTH. Then set the shared printer as default printer on your laptop through the "Add Printer" dialog in "Printers and Faxes". Open the "Properties" panel and try a Test Page to make sure it is working once you get it assigned as the default printer. Simple, huh?
